Kuranda Scenic Rail, Rainforestation & Skyrail
Come experience Cairns’ most popular rainforest tour. This is a full day tour that takes you through the majestic World Heritage-listed rainforest; you will have so much fun that you won’t even realise the wealth of knowledge you will gain from this exciting tour.
Commencing early morning, a luxury bus will pick you up directly from your accommodation in Cairns, Cairns Beaches or Port Douglas. The first stop is the Kuranda Scenic Rail. Jump aboard the historical Kuranda train on a journey through the oldest continuously surviving rainforest in the world. Upgrade to Gold Class and experience uninterrupted views and unlimited snacks and beverages on your train journey from Cairns. On the train you will see fabulous sights, encounter tunnels and bridges and be swept away by the rainforest flora and fauna that is ever abundant.
After a 1.45 hour journey you will find Kuranda Village, tucked away in the rainforest hiding a plethora of sightseeing, wildlife and culinary attractions. After some free-time exploring the markets, scenic walks and shops in Kuranda a coach will pick you up and transfer you to Rainforestation.
Rainforestation is a nature park that features a variety of Australian attractions such as aboriginal cultural displays, wildlife viewing and information about Cairns’ famous rainforest. The park spans 100 acres through the rainforest and gives visitors a hands on opportunity to touch, taste, see, hear and smell the vibrant flavours of the rainforest. Aboard the amphibious army duck that explores land and water and you will learn about local plants such as the strangler fig tree, stinging tree, orchids and ferns, and native animals such as the Azure kingfisher and a host of other birds and reptiles. Next why not watch the indigenous Pamajirri dancers. The corroboree depicts their native culture with stories of animals, hunting and food gathering. The rainforest serves as a perfect backdrop for this cultural display and the sounds of didgeridoos are majestically amplified through the dense tropical foliage. If this isn’t enough to occupy your day, join a dreamtime walk and learn about the legend of the Rainbow Serpent, try throwing a boomerang and listen and watch the aborigines play the didgeridoo and hunt with spears. Your Cairns rainforest adventure would not be complete without cuddling a koala, or feeding a crocodile. All this can be done at the koala and wildlife park located at Rainforestation.
After your time at Rainforestation is complete, hop back on the bus which will take you directly to Skyrail. This eco-friendly tour will carry you in a gondola overtop of the World Heritage-listed rainforest giving you spectacular views of the rainforest canopy, the city of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. There will be two stop-off points on your Skyrail journey. The first stop is Barron Falls Station where you will have a chance to explore the rainforest interpretation centre and soak in stunning views of the Barron Falls. The next stop is Red Peak station, where you can go on a guided boardwalk and learn about the amazing flora and fauna of the rainforest. After a 1.5 hour descent on Skyrail, arrive back to Cairns where your bus awaits you and will take you back to your accommodation.
