rainforest tours — Down Under Tours
4wd cape tribulation, daintree & mossman gorge
Join Down Under Tours on an action-packed day to the world’s oldest continuously surviving rainforest, the Daintree. The Daintree Rainforest is located two hours north of Cairns and the journey there is a trip in itself. Some have called the drive between Cairns and Port Douglas the best scenic drive in Australia as it incorporates rugged coastlines, miles of white powdery beaches and expansive views of the Great Barrier Reef. Stop off at the famous Rex Lookout and snap some amazing pictures to make your friends at home green with envy.
You will pass the lovely town of Port Douglas before you reach the Daintree ferry river crossing — this is where the adventure begins. After you have crossed the Daintree River you will visit the Daintree Environmental Center where you can have a cup of tea or coffee and re-energise, for it’s a big day in store. From there your guide will take you on a boardwalk tour through the World Heritage-listed rainforest where plant and animal life is ever abundant. After your tour of the rainforest boardwalk it is time to view the rainforest from another perspective; ascend the rainforest canopy tower and marvel at the sight of dense tropical foliage racing to the top of the rainforest canopy in search of sunlight. After your walk gain more information by watching a theatre presentation or play around in the interpretive centre.
During your entire adventure you will be given in-depth information from your insightful guide, who will be able to answer any questions you have about the rainforest eco-system.
Cape Tribulation Beach is the next stop on the map. This beach is unique as it is the only place in Queensland where the reef and rainforest meet. Laze around on the sandy white shores or join in on another boardwalk through the rainforest.
Lunch is the next stop, and by this point you should have worked up an appetite. Enjoy your delicious lunch beneath the rainforest canopy and perhaps indulge in a fresh glass of locally produced wine. From there proceed to Alexander Lookout and snap some fabulous shots of where the reef meets the rainforest.
The next destination of the day is a wildlife cruise along the Daintree River. Jump aboard and float along the calm waters, but don’t get too comfortable — Estuarine crocodiles inhabit this river. Your informative guide will provide commentary about the flora and fauna, ecosystems and of course the large crocs that call the Daintree River home.
The final spot you will visit on your tour is Mossman Gorge. Mossman Gorge is a breathtaking waterfall that not only offers spectacular views but also gives you a chance to take a cool dip in the brisk clean waters. Mossman Gorge is the last stop on this list before you kick your feet up and enjoy the ride back to Cairns.
