If you are thinking about taking the plunge and learning to dive, the 5 day PADI ‘Open Water’ dive course is the most popular option. Your course includes 2 days of land-based theory and pool training, then 3 days and 2 nights at the Great Barrier Reef staying onboard Pro Dive’s liveaboard dive vessel. With a total of 4 training and 5 certified dives, including 1 night dive, this course is totally unmatched for experience and value. We know because we did the comparison exercise!
Make a booking with us in the months of May to September and into October to experience the annual migration of the mighty Humpback whales and the inquisitive Minke whales. Something not to be missed.
Days 1 — 2
Here it’s back to school where you learn the basics of scuba diving, both classroom and pool, at Pro Dive’s modern, purpose built diver training centre in the middle of Cairns City. You learn all about regulating your breathing, how much air is in the tanks and how long you can scuba for. Things to do and not to do! How to help out your dive buddies, how to look after your gear and all the safety aspects of diving. At the end of day 2 your course includes the option of attending Reef Teach, a two hour marine biology presentation (minimal additional cost.) This informative presentation shows you a taste of what you will experience out on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Days 3 — 5
With an early departure on day 3 and a sumptuous yummy breakfast served onboard, you are finally on your way to the Great Barrier Reef. ‘Awesome’ the excitement and trepidation are all rolled into one as you cruise of into the sunrise. When you finally get to the outer reef the fun begins and you have the opportunity to do 9 dives in total over the next few days. Your first 4 training dives see you completing your PADI certification then 5 additional recreational dives to enjoy your new skills and gain some experience. One of these dives is a guided night dive! Now this will play some mind games for you!
Pro Dive Cairns have access to 16 exclusive sites on 4 different reefs. These sites have been selected for their variety and quality of both coral and marine life as well as great visibility. Weather permitting, you will rarely dive the same site more than twice. Water temperatures range from 22-29 Celsius (75-85 Farenheit) making for year round comfort.
On the last evening, when you return to Cairns, you have the opportunity to join the crew and your fellow passengers for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. This night is a celebration of your newly found passion — diving!
Pro Dive’s fleet of modern dive vessels with expansive dive and sun decks, and air-conditioned interiors, ensure your comfort for the duration of the trip. With only 32 passengers onboard, all in twin or double accommodation, you are assured of a personalised and memorable adventure!
Course inclusions:
- PADI Gold Open Water certification
- PADI Open Water Manual (available in English of course, German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, French and Japanese)
- Dive log book
- Two passport photos (required for certification)
- All dive and snorkelling equipment (includes dive computer and long leg wetsuits) Prescription lens masks (if required)
- Accommodation transfers (city and northern beaches)
- Double or twin share accommodation
- All meals and bed linen
- (Bring your own towel)
Extras:
- Dive Medical AU$49.50. A dive medical in accordance with Australian Standard 4005.1 (AS4005.1) is required by law to learn to dive in Queensland. To avoid potential disappointment we suggest that this medical be done prior to course commencement. Alternatively it can be arranged by Pro Dive on day 1 of your dive course.
- An additional fee of AU$30.00 per person is payable direct to Pro Dive. This fee consists of a AU$15.00 Government Environmental Management Charge as well as a Port Departure Tax and administration costs.
English courses commence every day except Sunday.
German courses commence Tuesday and Friday
Japanese courses commence Monday and Thursday
