Port Douglas Resorts accommodation: Thala Beach Lodge

Private Beach Road , port douglas, QLD

At Thala you will experience the world's most ancient rainforests. To seaward of Thala is the shimmering colourful world of the Great Barrier Reef, the greatest structure on Earth built by any form of life. Thala Beach Lodge was built to embrace the spirit of these great creations of the natural world.

It is the extraordinary that inspires and the adventure is finding it in all things. At Thala you are invited to share the adventure.

Thala Beach Lodge, Cairns Australia is merrily dancing to a different rhythm from the norm, embracing the pulsating energy that has created the surrounding landscape over millions of years.

Owners Rob & Oonagh Prettejohn have opened up their private world. Thala Beach Lodge is a place where travellers can breathe inspiration while enjoying an atmosphere of comfort and warm hospitality. Delicately perched on a beautiful peninsular with tropical rainforests cascading down to private beaches and coves. Thala has many permanent guests. They are recognisable by their wild temperament and generous covering of fur, feather or scales. They are constantly surprising and delighting the transient humans.

Thala Beach Lodge is a beacon of hope as mankind progresses from being 'the demolisher' to 'the conserver' to the 'environmental benefactor'. Over a period of 30 years, Rob and Oonagh have shepherded the re-establishment of complex rainforests on land that was once cleared and devastated by extractive farming. With the return of the forests wildlife populations have exploded bring their pulsating natural energy.

The lodge is built out of natural sustainable materials in a style that does not set out to dominate the surrounding landscape. With its own spa and natural therapies, there is no compromise for guests' creature comforts for those who want to be mollycoddles between bouts of soaking up natural energy.

Rob & Oonagh employ wildlife specialists who are on hand to guide and amaze their guests in their forests, the beaches or along their rocky headland. You might see rare Sub-finned Dolphins, followed soon afterwards by an encounter with a huge Australian Tarantula, lovingly coaxed by your guide from her deep burrow! How's that for an unlikely combination! And at night there is an observatory where guests are taken time travelling to the far reaches of The Milky Way. These are just some of the many exciting qualities that have earned Thala Beach Lodge and 'Advance Eco-Tourism Accreditation'.

Travellers at knickknack hotels kick a permanent and insensitive boot print into their chlorinated environment: Their shallow memories sink into lifeless pools. By contrast their fellow travellers at eco-lodges like Thala leave a soft print in an environmental journey towards a better world: They take away memories and understanding that will inspire them and other for years to come.

On a private stretch of coast right where Australia's Great Dividing Range cascades into the Coral Sea, Thala's beautifully appointed bungalows are secluded amongst trees and surrounded by exquisite tropical beaches. Surrounded by The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Australia's World Heritage Tropical Forests, your spacious bungalow at Thala will assure you of comfort, privacy, beautiful surroundings, solitude, contact with Wild Australia.

Eucalypt Bungalows capture the intimate feel of the unique tropical forest. Recent guests commented that on their first morning they drew the curtains to behold the treetops at their balcony's edge festooned with colourful Rainbow Lorikeets and numerous Honeyeaters. The colourful spectacle took their breath away. They described their Eucalypt Bungalow as the world's most luxurious bird hide! By day spectacular butterflies and birds pass right by your balcony and on a still night you might hear the cackle of the Orange Footed Scrubfowl or the distant howl of wild dingoes. There is nothing more memorable or evocative of Australia's wild places.

Each Coral Sea Bungalow has a spectacular view over the ocean yet is unobtrusively tucked away into the natural landscape. From the seclusion of your verandah you might see Ospreys, giant Manta rays, Bryde's whales or a pod of rare Australian Snub Fin Dolphins that are resident and commonly seen in this area. Each day is different. The Coral Sea Bungalows are exciting both in their location and their style.

Perched on the headland, overlooking the two secluded beaches, Sandpiper is privacy and romance. Luxuriously furnished, Sandpiper has a private verandah, lounge and spacious bedroom. At the edge of one of the world's natural treasures, The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
