Land Road, via Lake Echam, QLD
There is no denying that Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat is a “one of a kind” experience that you will remember long after returning home. Just 90 minutes from Cairns, this multi award winning retreat hosts 9 unique timber tree houses, nestled in the magnificent tropical highlands of North Queensland on 230 acres of private rainforest bordering World Heritage listed Wooroonooran National Park.
The property overlooks Mt Bartle Frere, Queensland’s tallest peak, with views no other property can match. Every treehouse is surrounded by rainforest and over 100 m apart to guarantee privacy.
The award winning property located on the Cairns Highlands is set on 230 acres of private rainforest. The property boasts 9 kilometres of hiking trails, with rainforest waterfall and streams. The tracks vary in grade from easy to average and in duration from 40 minutes to 90 minutes. At Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat on the Atherton Tablelands bird watching is a must, don’t forget to bring your binoculars along with you.
The unique Australian timber treehouses are set far enough apart to give you privacy without being secluded in a mountain hut miles from anyway. This magnificent property is ideal for all types of wildlife viewing especially the elusive platypus.
“Rose Gums” is named after the most prominent tree on the property the Rose Gum or Eucalyptus grandis. It is easily seen from the house because of its towering height and brilliant white trunks and branches. It can grow to 55m tall and 1.8 m in diameter. This tree typifies the Forest of the highlands of North Queensland.
Rose gums are important for a whole range of animal species. They are always hollow and they have huge branches at right angles to the trunk. The branches break off and provide wonderful dens for Gliders, Possums, Owls and Parrots. Lorikeets and Honeyeaters are abundant when the Eucalypts are in flower.
